McJo, Jo, Jor, Mac or Gro (short for Negro daw!). Well, there are just my sobriquets quoted by my friends and colleagues but the truth is that my beloved full name is Mc Joren Rupa Banzon. Quite a unique name? I strongly agree! It was given by my parents and was formed out of the combination of their names. Seriously! The syllable “Jo” came from my mother’s name (Jocelyn) likewise, the “Ren” came from my father’s, I believe a vintage name, Efren (Sorry Paps!). In my own perspective, my name is very unique and it is just something I can be proud of! (Gratitude goes to my outstanding parents!)

“I don’t mind spending everyday, out of your corner in the pourin’ rain…” This is a line from the song of my favorite band, “Maroon 5” entitled "She Will Be Loved". Ahh! Soft, sweet, serenading music! As it makes connecton with my sense of hearing, I start to feel a force running through my veins which emancipate me from all the troubles and worries I am handling. Truly, music, besides being one of my best time-eating hobbies, is relevant for my refreshment and recreation. Evidently, I won’t last a day, without hearing the melody and rhythm brought by the acoustic sounds. Yes, I prefer to listen to acoustic and alternative rock bands. Artists like, “Maroon 5”, “Boys Like Girls”, “Secondhand Serenade” and “Silent Sanctuary” would best describe the type of music I would love to lend my ears to. It is not really clear when did I start to have this affection for this kind of music, but bottom-line is that, I am indeed a music addict, a die hard fan of acoustic lyrical pieces!

Moreover, food would be another subject scribbled on top of my list for my most-wanted things! I am totally aware that my passion for eating is sometimes too much and it makes me a certified glutton! If there’s something to be blamed, perhaps it is the Filipino food! Undoubtedly, in my view, the mere aroma of the Filipino cuisines turns me into a magnet ready to grab and to attack the food! From my very first bite up to my last one, I can sense that I am craving to have it more and more! Who can ever resist the mouth-watering taste and scent of Sinigang, Adobo, Tinola, Dinuguan or Menudo?! No One! Above all these, the food I had mentioned does not only signifies my taste and it does not talk purely about fulfilling my stomach-pleasures, but it reveals how much I appreciate the nation I belong to, Filipino race!

As a Filipino teenager, who luckily, has the privilege to study in a prestigious school in the Philippines, I am able to be very much active on various school happenings, such as outbound trips, academic stuffs and most specially “sports” (Thank you DLSC!). Aside from my passion for the delicate music and the luscious Filipino delicacy, sports would be another thing to which I am inclined to. I grew up basking on the streets of our village seeking for friends to spend time with and play with. You heard me right; I absolutely became the kind of child who cannot stand a day just sitting around the four corners of his room! Hence, I learned a lot of different traditional games including patintero, moro-moro, taguan and tumbang preso. From high school up to now, tertiary level, my love for the game and sports still remains. I still play several sports namely basketball and volleyball. Why am I having so much  fun with this matter? It’s because I consider sports as a frolic, where I can replenish, enjoy the company of my friends and learn a lot of values like sportsmanship, camaraderie and teamwork.

I do believe that the enthusiasm and eagerness to know someone means trailing beneath his or her given name. I do not say that names are superfluous in knowing an individual, what I say is that, names and labels would just give people a minute piece of the identity puzzle of a particular individual and this would not be enough to reflect who someone really is. What showcases the true identity of a person are his works, practices, dislikes and most specially his likes! The way he live and the way he act in accordance to the happenings in his life determine his mere identity.

Please feel free to leave a comment! Thank you very much! ANIMO LA SALLE!

Me, Myself and the Cyber World!

Source: http://bit.ly/nvHSrv

One of my generations’s most proclaimed and enjoyed product of technology, I believe, is the “internet”. No one can deny how superior an individual can be when he starts to agitate his mouse, move his fingers and type on the keyboard and browse the net. Through surfing the internet, a particular person can unfold plenty of knowledge and information about a certain topic. Most of all, communication becomes more efficient and convenient. People tend to use the internet to maximize and develop past, current and future relationships to other people. Hence, many familiarize themselves into internet communication or what is popularly known as “Social Networking”. By social networking, an individual acquires the ability to connect virtually in a much broader and larger world. Therefore, a person who is actually online, doing social networking or other online activities, reveals his identity to the entire cyber world.

Personally, I believe and see myself as a humble Lasallian student who studies seriously and works strenuously for the benefit of his family and for his own future. But as I search on my full name and nickname combinations, I discovered that this was not the identity that the internet tells about me. Luckily, as I “Google my own name and sobriquets, positive things appeared. Matters which portray my interests about music and sports. To be specific, few of my “Facebook” activities were cached by Google! For example, my likes and comments about celebrities like “Boys like Girls”, “Katy Perry” and “Billy Ray Bates” were caught by the no-wonder-amazing site (just charge me the term)! But behind this positive image of mine found through surfing the net, I am a little bit afraid and upset because my whole identity is not properly established. Music and sports are not fallacious to be the representation of my identity, but in my own view, one’s interest is not completely enough to exemplify who he really is. Perhaps, the information about me in the internet simply implies that some people may see me differently from my true identity and looked at me as a person who does not take anything sincerely or earnestly. They may see me as a happy go lucky person.

I was really enlightened and so from now on, I will improve my online presence by making myself more decent and respectable than before. May it be personally or virtually, I will always make sure that my mind would function primarily before my hands start to smash and press on the keyboard. I will always make sure that I will bear in mind that my actions will always bear corresponding results and consequences. Moreover, the data about me posed in the internet can undoubtedly bring a huge impact in my personal life. Mentioning personal life, it has been said that it is always attached into career. In the issue of career planning and path-trailing, it is inevitable that my future boss or manager will take time to browse my online background and through this, he can uncover my pass activities using the internet. If he ever see an unpleasant, erroneous or a negative matter pertaining to me, there is a great possibility that I will be rejected and considered as not suitable for the job or position I am applying for. Regardless of where I am or who I am talking to, responsibility and decency should always be in my mind in order for me to protect and enhance my mere personality. Prior to that, I must always think before I act because such principle will help tremendously in establishing, molding and honing my most respectable cyber identity.
